Voici les commentaires que nous avons reçus en réponse à la question 1 de la consultation en ligne, qui est : Comment pourrait-on faciliter la recherche et l'utilisation des données gouvernementales fournies en ligne?

A centralized internet site having the list of all the data available, source and methods used for compiling the data. The data would be then available in a format that is well explained and can be fully retrieved through the site.

Search function across government sites that targets current information. Generally search results are too broad and bring up all kinds of irrelevant information. It is difficult to determine most current legislation also.

To have all government data available through a single website, regardless of whether the information comes from CIC, HRSDC, Statistics Canada etc.

Provide on-line access via government web sites to information. Such sites should have query capabilities and allow for the direct downloading of data.

The government could maintain an online directory of resources available as data. The government could also ensure that the data be available in an open standard format (where one is available). The government could ensure low barriers to accessing the data; for example, while you could make it available as a PDF or spreadsheet it should also be available in the types of open formats common in open data initiatives (XML, JSON, text).
