Responses to our online consultation question 1 (Page 2)

This is what we have heard in response to our online consultation question 1: "What could be done to make it easier for you to find and use government data provided online?"

We are committed to respecting the Official Languages Act and ensuring that its communications are in both French and English. Information that has been provided by third parties, such as the comments in the "What We've Heard" section of this website, is posted in the official language in which it was received. It would be much easier to find and utilize the data if it was standardized and universally made available in a single location, far beyond the scope of the data.gc.ca pilot project. The information ideally needs to be available in multiple standard formats with an open license to allow anybody to utilize that data in multiple ways (commercially or otherwise).

To easily FIND data, the data should be easily searchable via the web. Obviously, there would be a website that would house all of your data available open data products.

To make it easy to USE data, provide the data in standard formats such as CSV, XML. You can still use proprietary tools (like Beyond 20/20) or "less open" formats such as SPSS or SAS files, just as long as the standard formats are available.

  1. Provide summary at-a-glance statistics for government activities

    Undertake Usability Studies to create statistics that are timely, meaningful, easy to understand, and accurate.

    These would allow citizens to understand what their government is doing, and hold them to their commitments.

Je recommande un portail centralisé rassemblant les hyperliens de toutes les bases de données disponibles au public organisé par thèmes, par exemple, affaires consulaires, santé, finances, etc.
